Tyson expands its Dark Meat Chicken options


Consumers are choosing dark chicken meat dishes because of the flavor, its popularity in ethnic dishes, its cost point and its attributes for direct heat on the grill, according to Tom Super, vice president of communications for The National Chicken Council. There’s also a rise of celebrity chefs utilizing dark meat chicken on TV food shows, which means consumers are seeing how dark chicken meat is used as an ingredient and center-of-the-plate protein. To meet this demand, Tyson Food Service expanded its Dark Meat Chicken portfolio, which includes options from taco meat to drumsticks to chicken strips to sausage patties.
